Second Vocation
The call to the priesthood... what does it sound like?
Many people already in the work force find that they are hearing a call to explore the possibility of priesthood. This is not unusual. You might feel that the work you are doing or the life you have lived up to this point are not filling your deepest needs to make a lasting impact on the world. Perhaps you don't feel as close to the Lord as you would like. These pages are for you.
The qualifications for second career candidates are basically the same as those required of any candidate: good morals, good health, and academic ability.
Talking with God is essential in seeking His will for our lives. He can't talk to us if we do not spend time talking to Him. Daily Mass, frequent use of the sacrament of reconciliation, and private time with God are excellent ways to listen to His call. Here is a prayer that you might find helpful.
...
Listen: Listen for the call from within: the thought that won't go away, the inspiration you have had since childhood, that desire for more fulfillment than any career you have considered, the voice of God in prayer. But don't look for lightning bolts and miracles. Listen for the call from outside: what have others seen in you and said you would be good at? Have others suggested to you a possible vocation to priesthood, diaconate, or religious life?
" Speak, Lord, your servant is listening."
Act: Act on your call. Read about your choices. Ask questions. Join a vocation awareness prayer group. Visit a monastery or convent. Share your ideas with others. Talk with priests and religious to find what the life is really like. The Vocations Office is here to give you assistance with any of the above.
" Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice."

Remember that the goal of this teaching is to facilitate the lessons of unconditional love and acceptance. There is no possibility of accomplishing this toward others if you have not first learned how to unconditionally accept yourself.
Here are seven steps to lead you in that direction.
1. Trust in your perceptivity.
2. Ruthless truthfulness with yourself.
3. Acknowledging that the world and those in it are perfect and making a commitment to be tolerant.
4. Allow yourself your own power and constant choice to be appropriate with it.
5. Erasing fear and the chief negative feature to live in gentleness and joy.
6. Truly experiencing surrender and therefore power and control, which leads to the true integration of personality and essence. This allows you to fully experience the physical plane as well as the truth, love, and beauty of the other planes.
7. Humility

Through contact with others, we know that we are loved and respected and that we belong. Use the following suggestions to help your child feel he or she belongs within your family.
Although learning really takes place all the time, plan to create a learning opportunity for your child at least once a week.
Contributing enhances our feelings of belonging, providing the basis for continued learning and strengthening of self-esteem. Every day, use the following suggestions to help your child feel that he or she is contributing.
You may want to keep a journal when you are starting to use this method. Each day for at least 3 weeks, write in your journal specifically how you helped your child develop a sense of belonging, learning, and contributing. Keeping a journal for an extended period of time will help encourage positive behavior. After 3 weeks, review your notes to see your child's progress and to identify new ways to help your child.

A Bakersfield, Calif. boy saved a friend and her dog after a pitbull tried to attack them. Did he do it by calmly coaxing the dog with a sweet voice, and then singing to it ? Nope. He did it using a choke he learned in a jiu-jitsu class, which he held for 20 minutes until the police showed up.

A manual muscle test in AK is conducted by having the patient resist using the target muscle or muscle group while the practitioner applies a force. A smooth response is sometimes referred to as a "strong muscle" and a response that was not appropriate is sometimes called a "weak response". This is not a raw test of strength, but rather a subjective evaluation of tension in the muscle and smoothness of response, taken to be indicative of stresses and imbalances in the body.[12] A weak muscle test is equated to dysfunction and chemical or structural imbalance or mental stress, indicative of a body dissatisfied with suboptimal functioning.[13] The most common test is the arm-pull-down test, or "Delta test," where the patient resists as the practitioner exerts a downward force on an extended arm.[7] Proper positioning is paramount to ensure that the muscle in question is the prime mover, minimizing interference from adjacent muscle groups.[10]

In other words, a prophecy declared as truth when it is actually false may sufficiently influence people, either through fear or logical confusion, so that their reactions ultimately fulfill the once-false prophecy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pygmalion_effect
The Pygmalion effect, or Rosenthal effect, refers to situations in which students perform better than other students simply because they are expected to do so. The effect is named after George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, in which a professor makes a bet that he can teach a poor flower girl to speak and act like an upper-class lady, and is successful.
The Pygmalion effect requires a student to internalize the expectations of their superiors. It is a form of self-fulfilling prophecy, and in this respect, students with poor expectations internalize their negative label, and those with positive labels succeed accordingly. Within sociology, the effect is often cited with regards to education and social class.

arts-calligraphy, martial arts, tea ceremony, painting-and the spiritual meaning of such practiceKawabata Terutaka Sensei, ... shihan in the Tenshin Sho Jigen Ryu ... :
One of the most important qualities in any Japanese martial art is an elusive, but clearly discernible, "sharpness." Without this sharp, decisive, and resolute quality, our techniques degenerate into nothing more than an exhibition of stylized movement. Although Davey Shihan's aiki-jujutsu techniques are unusually flowing and exceedingly beautiful to observe, he never loses the vital and dynamic "sharpness" which lies at the heart of all budo.
(Shihan is an honorific title that is similar to Professor and is used to refer to a "master instructor.")

At 43 years old, Nakamura Sensei was suddenly inspired to abandon his social position and wealth to found the Toitsu-Kai ("Association for Unification"). This was later renamed the Toitsu Tetsui Gakkai, the "Unification Philosophy and Medical Research Institute," and it was dedicated to helping people to improve their mental and physical health.
He began offering free classes in Shin-shin-toitsu-do, "The Way of Mind and Body Unification," which took place daily at Ueno Park and Hibiya Park in Tokyo. In September of this year, Mukai Iwao, Chief Prosecutor, noticed him and introduced him to Prime Minister Hara Takashi (8). Prime Minister Hara said, "This is a man to speak in a proper place, not in the streets."
As the result, many well-known people in political and financial circles came to attend his public lectures. Admiral Togo Heihachiro (9); Sugiura Jugo (10), a famed educator; and Ishikawa Sodo, a renowned Zen Buddhist priest of Sojiji Temple in Tsurumi, Yokohama are just a few of his early famous students.

Aiki-jujutsu is a jujutsu form that is traced to the Aizu clan's Nisshinkan training hall (located in present-day Fukushima). It was taught in modern times by Saigo Tanomo Sensei (1829-1905), an Aizu clan elder advisor. Saigo Sensei taught aiki-jujutsu, formerly known as Aizu oshikiuchi, to Takeda Sokaku Sensei (1860-1943), the disseminator of Daito Ryu aiki-jujutsu, who in turn taught Ueshiba Morihei Sensei (1883-1969), the founder of aikido.
...
He emphasizes aiki-jujutsu as a noncompetitive art ... Like aikido, aiki-jujutsu is based on the principle of aiki, or "union with Ki"--the animating energy of Nature itself. Aiki-jujutsu, however, contains a much wider variety of unarmed and armed techniques than are found in most forms of aikido. These skills encompass throwing and pinning methods using all parts of the body, including the feet, plus close-distance and ground grappling, and a broad range of weapons systems. Davey Sensei provides professional instruction in pinning holds, grappling methods, throwing techniques, strangle holds, arresting skills, and weapons training.
Since aiki-jujutsu involves harmonizing with Ki, it has the potential to vitally transform the lives of its participants. Surprisingly, this transformation does not only take place in the realm of dynamic self-protection. Due to the unique characteristics of aiki-jujutsu, it is correspondingly possible to experience deeper levels of calmness, relaxation, concentration, willpower, and physical fitness in daily living. Davey Sensei is also the author of Unlocking the Secrets of Aiki-jujutsu (Masters Press), which can be ordered by visiting Amazon.com.

At the age of three years she began to be favoured with Divine communications, and to show great compassion for the poor. She would set apart a portion of her food for them, and even part with her clothes when she met a poor child scantily clad. These traits and a great love for the Cross developed as she grew older. When others did not readily join in her religious practices she was inclined to be dictatorial. In her sixteenth year this imperfection of character was brought home to her in a vision in which she saw her own heart as a heart of steel. In her writings she confesses that she took a certain pleasure in the more stately circumstances which her family adopted when her father was appointed superintendent of finance at Piacenza. But this did not in any way affect her early-formed resolution to dedicate herself to religion, although her father urged her to marry and procured for her several suitors as soon as she became of marriageable age. Owing to her father's opposition to her desire to enter a convent, Veronica fell ill and only recovered when he gave his consent.
